When Mariah Maven opened THE SPACE in 2014, it was just her, a huge room in a historic building, and a passion for ashiatsu barefoot massage. Today, she leads a 10-therapist team, teaches trainings that draw students from across the U.S. and Canada, and runs much of the business from home.

From solo practice to thriving niche studio

After a shoulder injury in 2018 forced Mariah to step back from hands-on work, she began hiring employees. The studio grew steadily and now specializes almost entirely in ashiatsu massage, making them one of the only multi-therapist ashi-focused studios in the region.
