# Creating Custom Fees

**Note: **

We recommend following local rules and regulations regarding fees and how they are charged.

To create a custom fee, you must be an Admin user. Open the **Settings** app and select **Payments & Checkout > Custom Fees**.

Select **Add custom fee**.

Enter a name for the fee and select **Save**. This name will be displayed during checkout, on receipts (including [receipt previews](/learn/advanced-settings-payments-checkout/#receipt-preview)), in online booking, and during Express Booking™.

In the **Details** tab, specify what the fee should be applied to and how it should be calculated.

You can apply the fee to:

- **The entire sale: **This will add the fee to the sale regardless of payment method.

- **Only specific payment methods: **This will only add the fee to the sale if the selected payment methods are used.

You can add the fee as a fixed amount or percentage.

- **Fixed amount: **The fee will be added as a fixed amount to the sale.

- **Percentage: **The fee will be added as a percentage of the sale subtotal **or **payment amount. If the fee applies to the entire sale, the percentage will be calculated on the sale subtotal, which does **not **include tax or tip. If the fee applies to specific payment methods, the percentage will be calculated on the payment amount, which **does **include tax, tip, and any other custom fees that were added to the entire sale.

In the **Conditions** tab, specify when the fee should be added. You can add the fee when checking out all sales, or only sales that meet certain criteria, such as a minimum subtotal or a service requirement.

If you add both a minimum subtotal and a service requirement, the minimum subtotal will include all services **and** products in the sale, not just services.

In the **Advanced** tab, if you have multiple [locations](/learn/business-setup-locations/), specify the locations where this fee should be added.

Once a custom fee is created, you can enable it by selecting **Enable**.

If you have at least one custom fee that is enabled, clients will see a disclaimer in online booking and during [Express Booking™](/learn/help-articles/calendar/express-booking/) that fees may apply at checkout, as shown below. This allows you to disclose potential fees to clients before they book so there are no hidden fees. The disclaimer will include fee names and fee amounts. Only fees enabled for the selected location in online booking or Express Booking™ will be shown.
