# Completing Checkouts with Custom Fees

Once a custom fee is [enabled](/learn/creating-custom-fees/), you can complete a checkout with the custom fee.

Begin the checkout as you normally would. Select **Go To Payments**.

If the sale meets the fee's [conditions](/learn/creating-custom-fees/#conditions-tab), the fee will either be:

- Added to the sale automatically, as shown above. For percentage-based fees, the percentage will be calculated on the **sale subtotal**.

- Added to the payment amount once the corresponding payment method is selected. For percentage-based fees, the percentage will be calculated on the **payment amount**. The payment amount may increase if the client adds a tip via [card reader](/learn/how-to-take-payments-with-the-card-reader-direct-connection/), [Front Desk Display](/learn/how-to-take-payments-with-the-front-desk-display/), or [Client Self Checkout](/learn/client-self-check-out/). If you have tip buttons enabled, the client will be able to see how much the fee will increase with each tip option as shown below.

Once a custom fee is added to a sale, you can complete the checkout as you normally would. Fee names and amounts will be included on the client's receipt.
